Collier's Powerful Welsh Cheddar is UK's Best Mature Cheddar
Collier’s Powerful Welsh Cheddar has swept to victory by carrying off a Gold award for the Best Mature Cheddar at the National Cheese Awards.
The Welsh cheese audaciously plucked victory at the home of Cheddar at the Bath and West Show in Somerset.
It beat off competition from 20 other cheese makers at the show which boasts the largest number of cheddar classes in the country and attracts over 700 entries.
The latest award is one of many for Collier’s, which has won a whole cabinet of awards in recent years.
Made in North Wales, it is matured for up to 20 months. It is famed for its lengthy powerful taste with sweet and savoury notes, and tantalising crunchy bits, which are actually salt crystals and evidence of the cheese’s high quality.
Last year it won a Gold Award for Best Extra Mature Cheddar at the International Cheese Awards at Nantwich.
“We are thrilled at Collier’s success but not surprised,” says Marketing Director at Fayrefield Foods, Pat Brunt.
“We have legions of fans that tell us how much they love Collier’s on our website and it really is a cheese that people are passionate about.”
Collier’s Powerful Welsh Cheddar is available from supermarkets at around £3.58 for 400g.

About Collier’s Powerful Welsh Cheddar
Collier’s is a uniquely ‘powerful’ mature cheddar with a long, deep character and savoury, yet slightly sweet taste. Unusually, it contains tantalising “crunchy bits” which are actually calcium lactate grains that develop during maturation and are evidence of the cheese’s high quality.
Launched in 2002, Collier’s is made in Wales. The recipe is a closely guarded secret. It is matured for up to 20 months and is regularly and carefully graded throughout its development, until it attains the unique taste and texture that defines Collier’s Powerful Welsh Cheddar.
